Social Responsibility

At McCain, we believe it’s our responsibility to be a good corporate citizen by acting in ways that support our local communities, our environment and our employees. We do it because it's the right thing to do.

We live up to our responsibility by making a positive impact every day – by bringing smiles to our customers and consumers and helping our employees, families, and communities thrive. We do it because it's the right thing to do, and we are guided by the 5 Rs:

Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Redesign, Reimagine

Hunger Relief Efforts
We are proud to fight hunger in every corner of the globe. We have partnered with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) to help provide nutritious food for the poor and hungry. We also fund programs with the UNFAO to raise awareness of the vital role of the potato and to educate farmers in the developing world on the sustainability of potato crops.

We also support several community feeding programs in disadvantaged areas and help with learning opportunities in South Africa.

Charitable Contributions
We consider giving back to the community a top priority. Through donations to food banks and monetary gifts, we try to help improve the lives of members of the communities in which we do business. Some of our efforts, both local and global, include:

  • Providing emergency relief vehicles to the Red Cross
  • Donating to Feeding America – the nation’s leading hunger-relief charity
  • Supporting "Annie's Fun," which helps children, minorities and economically disadvantaged communities
  • Holding corporate-sponsored blood drives
  • Providing hurricane and flood victim relief funds
  • Donating to the Ronald McDonald House and other McDonald's-sponsored charitable drives

Along with these corporate initiatives, our individual employees go to great lengths to help as well, through:

  • Donations to local food pantries
  • Fundraising efforts to support medical research and education through the American Lung Association, American Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Heart Association
  • Private donations that included $700,000 worth of emergency relief vehicles to Red Cross chapters over the past decade
  • More than $600,000 of food given to Feeding America in just a four-month period
  • $300,000 in donations to "Annie's Fun" in 2009 alone

Responsible Agriculture Processes/Green Efforts
Quite simply, a healthy environment and sustainable agricultural practices are essential to the production of our wholesome foods. As a result, we work to continuously improve our overall performance from farm to fork through renewable, efficient energy sources, water conservation and reduction, increased use of renewable and recyclable packaging, waste minimization and recovery, and best practices in environmental management systems throughout our entire organization.

Through our devotion to sustainable growth, we ensure a continued delivery of safe and high-quality products for our customers well into the future while leaving a smaller environmental footprint in the communities where we operate.
