History

It all started with two brothers who opened a single processing facility in Canada in the 1950s. From there, it was an exciting, fast-paced trip to becoming a global foodservice leader.

1956
The McCain brothers, Harrison and Wallace, incorporate McCain Foods on May 24, 1956.

1957
The brothers open their first production plant in a small village in rural Canada.

1965
McCain Foods enters into the U.S. market, taking its first step toward becoming the world's #1 french fry.

1970s and 1980s
A period of exceptional growth and expansion begins with the acquisition of french fry plants across America and the purchase of brands such as Ellio's Pizza in New Jersey.

1997
McCain acquires the Ore-Ida® frozen french fry and appetizer business.

2000s
McCain acquires the production facilities and foodservice business of Anchor® Food Products, Inc., a leading American manufacturer of frozen appetizers.

Today
McCain Foods USA, headquartered in Lisle, Illinois, employs more than 4,300 people and operates 10 production facilities across the country. We provide high-quality potato and appetizer products to McDonald’s, Burger King, Arby's, Wal-Mart and countless foodservice operations, including colleges, K-12, military institutions, businesses, hospitals and nearly every segment of foodservice.
