What's in their head?
Socializing when they eat is just as important (or possibly more important) than nutrition and eating well. Teens are caught in a struggle to figure out who they are as adults, and their dining choices reflect that. They like big portions, they like big flavors, but they also understand proper nutrition. Yet, knowing what they should eat and simply eating what they want is an ongoing struggle.

What do they want?
They want it all. Big, global flavors are something they're willing to try, but they also like the option of eating those familiar comfort foods they grew up with. What they think is cool is most-often a result of the influence of their friends and classmates. But you can count on a couple things: the adult-sized portions and flavors they find at restaurants are going to go over well.

What can you do for them?
Make sure you give them a variety of tastes and plenty of food. They know nutrition, but they also eat massive amounts of food. Reduced-fat, low-sodium and oven-baked choices—as long as there are plenty of them—will do. They respond well to promotional messages in the cafeteria, which can go a long way to keeping them on campus for a meal.

What's on the menu?
Portability is probably the most important factor here. Teens are all about socializing first, eating second (or third).
